Random Thoughts

I’ve recently done some inventory, and asked God for forgiveness. I’ve commited idolatry in my heart. How, if i’m a Christian Bought by the blood of Christ? I’ve relied on people for affirmation, and approval. i’ve done this at the expense of compromising the Gospel. I found my identity in theology instead of God. I boasted on the amount of knowledge I knew instead of the Work that Christ Accomplished on the Cross. I’ve made idols for myself, idols that could never save me.

In Jeremiah 2:13 “For My people have committed two evils: they have forsaken Me, the Fountain of living waters, and they have hewn for themselves cisterns, broken cisterns which cannot hold water.”

Though these words were written well over two thousand years ago, the message is still very important today. The main theme of this verse is the People forsaking, or leaving God, walking away from God, turning to Idols. God calls Himself the Fountain of living water, and says that the people have made cisterns (clay water pots) for themselves… Not just ANY cisterns, but BROKEN cisterns that cannot hold water.Meaning it’s useless, it cannot quench their thirst since it cannot hold water… Get the picture?

The same has happened with us in the Body of Christ. We have a wonderful loving God who sacrificed His only son for us, and gives us living water, so that we never have to thirst after anything again (John 6:35). Yet we cleave and lean on people for affirmation, strength and motivation. We THIRST for things that will never satisfy us just like the broken cisterns. We thirst for money, and we can never have enough of it. We thirst for the affection of the opposite sex, and we can never get enough of it. We thirst for the next best phone, and we’re never satisfied. We completely ignore our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who truly satisfies. We ignore our Lord who truly completes.

I’m tired of seeing single Christian Men and women talking about Wives and husbands who “complete” them… That person cannot complete you. The moment you lean on that person for completion you have made a broken cistern for yourself. God completes you (Phillipians 1:6), your future significant other just compliments you, there is a difference. Believers in Christ lusting after money how can you? When you let money and possesions create your identity you have made for yourself a broken cistern. Money will always let you down as long as you continue to Lust over it.

Here is the Good News. Jesus took the complete wrath of God the Father, for you, and I. For every sin we have, or will commit. The Bible says in 1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” Jesus is the only person who can truly and completely satisfy us. He is our living water John 6:35. Let us leave the idols behind, and look toward Christ the author and finisher of our faith.

soooo true, even sometimes this sort of thing is preached and it’s very bad because it can make you expect what you can only get from God from your spouse!
